Bill is the oldest child of Adelaide and John Platz. He was born in San Diego, California. He attended Colorado Western State College in Gunnison. In 2009, Bill and his wife Paula reside in Mitchell, South Dakota.
William is a descendent of Jacob and Margaret (Bost) Fecht, Elizabeth Fecht Campbell, Ella Campbell Mackey, William Mackey, Adelaide Platz, William Platz.
