William Campbell Mackey, the oldest child of Ella (Campbell) and Clarence Mackey, was raised in the Ansley, Nebraska home of his father, which was still standing in 1974. He followed his father into the banking profession. During the First World War, William served his country in the United States Navy.
In May of 1927 William married Irvie Irene Van Ostrand, the daughter of _________________ (father) and __________________ (mother’s maiden name). The couple were married shortly after William has completed his education at the University of Nebraska and Wayne State Teachers’ College. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, 1) Lou Adelaide, the mother died.

Who’s Who in Nebraska 1940 Custer County

Clarence Mackey worked from 1870 to 1874 in Minerva, Ohio. From 1874 to 1878 he was employed in a drug store in Pemberville, Ohio. From 1878 to 1883 he worked in a (possibly wholesale) drug store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1883, Clarence became the manager of the W. L. Scott Drug Store.
In 1890, Clarence migrated to the State of Nebraska. The following year he went to work for the Exchange Bank of Westerville. He worked for that bank until 1894. Clarence Mackey tried his hand at farming from 1894 to 1904. But, he returned to the banking business as a cashier for the Ansely State Bank. He retired in 1926.
Clarence served as a representative in the Nebraska State Legislature for four years. He also was the treasurer for Custer County for five years. He was a member of the AF&AM, which your author believes was a Free Masonic organization. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows (IOOF).
Ella (Campbell) Mackey died suddenly in the year 1906, leaving her husband and five young children. Anxious to help their son-in-law and grandchildren, Elizabeth (Fecht) and her husband Richard Campbell, accompanied by their son William moved to the state of Nebraska. The Campbells lived on a farm, which belonged to their son-in-law Clarence Mackey. The farm was located in Westerville, Nebraska. The Mackey family lived nine miles away in the town of Ansely. Clarence Mackey, who was a successful banker, was able to give his children a good education.

Ella (Campbell) and Clarence Mackey had five children. They are: 1) William __________, 2) Thomas ____________, 3) Richard ___________, 4) Clarence ____________ Jr., and 5) Miriam Ella Mackey.

Note: Ella Campbell Mackey died very young. Her children were raised by their paternal grand parents, and contact was lost with this family.

Obituary of Adelaide Platz
Alelaide M. Platz, 73, of Sidney (Nebraska) passed away early Wednesday morning, May 31, 2006 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 3 in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with the Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church or to the Memorial Health Center.
Adelaide M. Platz was born September 23, 1932 in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the only child of Irene and William Mackey. Her mother died shortly after the birth of Adelaide. Her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mackey, Sr. of Ansley, Nebraska, raised Adelaide. After her marriage to John W. Platz the couple lived in San Diego, California for three years and then they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where they lived seven years while Dr. Platz pursued his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Adelaide and John Platz moved to Sidney in 1962, where Dr. Platz practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2005. Together they raised a family of six children.
Mrs. Platz was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Providence Chapter #108, and had served for several years on the Guardian Council of Job’s Daughters in whatever area she was needed, but her main interests revolved around raising her children.
Survivors are her husband; her sons and daughters-in-law, William and Paula Platz of Mitchell, South Dakota, Richard Platz of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Paul and Lisa Platz of Baytown, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Johna Walker of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mary and Kent Matsutani of Kapolei, Hawaii, Amy and Bradley Stepp of Stoughton, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, Mallory, Jessica, David, Megan, John, Jocelyn, Garrett and Rachel.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Annie O'Callighan Fecht was the first wife of Jonn C. Fecht. She was one of the Saint Louis Irish girls who married into our Fecht family. She and Elizabeth Ann Walsh Fecht were best friends.
